Plasma cutting systems donated to tech program

Students in the Pittsburg State Manufacturing Engineering Technology Program at Pittsburg State are getting their hands on two new pieces of state-of-the-art equipment.

Hypertherm, a plasma and laser cutting equipment company out of Hanover, N.H., recently donated two new plasma cutting systems to the Pitt State College of Technology. The donation, valued at more than $7,000, comes as part of a multi-layer partnership with the manufacturing technology program.

“Hypertherm is a top-quality company, both in equipment and corporate responsibility, and we’re very glad to have them as a partner,” said Phil McNew, university professor of engineering technology. “These new plasma cutting systems will enhance our ability to properly prepare our students for the workforce.”

As part of the agreement with Pitt State, Hypertherm will replace the existing equipment with new models as technology evolves and advances. Pitt State will also have access to the Hypertherm Cutting Institute, an online resource for plasma education.

Brett Hubbard, district sales manager for Hypertherm, said the company is excited to work with Pitt State.

“The College of Technology here is outstanding, and we always enjoy being able to provide equipment for the students to train on,” he said. “Our goal is to enhance and promote the educational experience by providing state-of-the-art systems.”
