Meet the Firms connects business students, professionals

More than 100 Kelce College of Business students met with potential future employers on Monday, September 14, during the annual Meet the Firms event inside the Overman Student Center.

The annual event connects Pitt State business students with representatives from a variety of companies and organizations looking to hire students in the fields of accounting, economics, finance, auditing and other business-related fields. Nearly 30 companies attended this year’s event, which took place in the new Crimson and Gold Ballroom.

“Meet the Firms is a fantastic opportunity for our students to meet and network with a wide variety of business professionals,” said Paul Grimes, dean of the Kelce College of Business. “Making connections with industry pros is incredibly valuable, and events like this make that happen right here on our campus.”

Ashton Halda, a senior accounting major from Spring Hill, said she made many “positive connections” at this year’s event.

“We are fortunate here at Pitt State to have these opportunities to network with these companies and professionals,” Halda said. “I walked out of the event with much more knowledge and many more connections than I had when I went in. It’s great to be able to get that first-hand look at what opportunities are out there.”

Meet the Firms is coordinated as a joint effort between the Kelce College of Business and Pittsburg State’s Office of Career Services.

“Giving our students these opportunities to meet with potential employers is a major focus of what we do,” said Mindy Cloninger, director of the career services office. “Meet the Firms is a wonderful example of how personal connection and networking between students and professionals can pay great dividends down the road.”

Meet the Firms 2015 was sponsored by Koch Industries, Inc.
