KTC hosts largest ever, two-day Company Day

The Pittsburg State College of Technology is always looking for new ways to improve Company Day, and during this year’s event the college received a rather unique suggestion.

“There was one company rep that stopped me and suggested we put numbers on all of the students so companies could bid on them,” said COT Dean Bruce Dallman. “He was joking, of course, but it does highlight how competitive Company Day can be and how attractive and employable our students are.”

More than 250 companies from across the nation met with Pitt State technology students this week during the largest ever Company Day event at the Kansas Technology Center. This was the first year the event took place over two full days.

“We absolutely needed to make it a two-day event in order to give our students and the companies in attendance plenty of time to make those valuable face-to-face connections,” Dallman said. “It’s very exciting to see the interest in this event continue to grow, and it’s incredibly important for our students’ futures.”

One of the companies in attendance was construction and engineering firm Hensel Phelps, which was represented by several Pitt State graduates, including 2014 construction management graduate Ashley Ferris.

“Now that I’m out of school and on this side of the table, I truly realize just how important events like Company Day are,” Ferris said. “For students and companies alike, the exposure and networking opportunities here are just amazing.”

Tim Whittaker, a junior wood technology major, said Company Day is the premier recruiting event of the year.

“As students, we don’t have time to go out and meet all of these companies face to face,” he said. “So it’s great that they all come to us. It’s incredibly beneficial for us, and Pittsburg State makes it happen every year. I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”
