High school musicians join Wind Ensemble in concert

The Pittsburg State University Wind Ensemble will have some special guests for their first concert of the season. The Webb City Jazz Ensemble I will join the PSU ensemble in the concert, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

“Our PSU band program has always had a strong relationship with the Webb City High School Band program,” said Craig Fuchs, director of the PSU ensemble. “We have had many Webb City students come to PSU to play in the band and major in music and they have always been great additions to our program.”

Fuchs said this year the Wind Ensemble is planning side-by-side concerts in which they will invite outstanding high school band programs to share the stage with them.

“This is a great recruitment tool as the high school students get to hear our ensemble and also get to play in the beautiful and amazing Bicknell Family Center for the Arts,” Fuchs said.

Fuchs added that the upcoming concert will be doubly special for his graduate teaching assistant, Jennifer Whyte, a Webb City graduate who will also conduct the PSU Wind Ensemble.

The Webb City Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of John Evans. The concert is free and open to the public.
