Jessie P. Cook, adjunct professor of trumpet at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., will present a free guest trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, in the Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall at Pittsburg State University.
A frequent recitalist and clinician, Cook has recently performed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Lyric Opera, the Austin Bach Cantata Project, and the City Limits Brass Quintet. Cook has performed for and instructed students at universities in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi and Oklahoma.
Cook has both a master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Texas-Austin and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Roosevelt University. Cook was the band director at John Marshall Harlan High School in Chicago from 2006 until 2008. During this time he revitalized the school’s band program, taking it from 30 to 120 students, who performed exclusively 160 school-owned instruments acquired during Cook’s tenure.
The Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall is located in McCray Hall, 205 E. Lindburg, in Pittsburg.
