Just about anywhere they look on campus, Pittsburg State University students can find a place to recycle their cans and bottles. But thanks to a new piece of technology, they can really step up their game.
A Pepsico Dream Machine in PSU’s Overman Student Center not only takes students’ recyclable bottles and cans, it awards them points that they can redeem for cool stuff. And to make recycling even more attractive, Pepsi donates to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities for each pound of recyclable material collected.
Kyle Hostetler, Student Government Association president, said the Dream Machine is another way to encourage PSU students to recycle.
“It’s a fantastic machine,” Hostetler said. “All we have to do is get the information out and make sure students are aware of this and we can all benefit from this when it comes to sustainability.”
Pitt State’s Dream Machine, located in the lower level of the Overman Student Center is one of just three in Kansas and the only one located on a university campus.
