Sororities welcome new members at Bid Day

Pittsburg State's three sororities welcomed more than 150 new members during the annual Sorority Bid Day event on Friday, Aug. 14. 

The annual event, which takes place in The Oval on the Friday before the new semester, culminates a week of sorority rush and recruitment activities. Megan Smejdir, PSU program coordinator for Campus Actitivies and Greek adviser, said the Bid Day activity is a great way to start a new semester.

"It's always fun to see the women embrace one another and welcome new members into the sororities," she said. "Everyone looks forward to this event."

There are three sororities at PSU, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Sigma Sigma Sigma.

Shelby Bicknell, who was welcomed into Sigma Sigma Sigma, said the memory of Bid Day will remain with her forever.

"There's really nothing like it when your sisters are running toward you with big smiles and their arms wide open," she said. "That embrace you get as your name is called is awesome, and I'll remember that forever."
