PSU grad shares a passion for sharks

Jordan Johnson is passionate about sharks. She will share some of that passion, as well as photos and other information about her recent work with White Shark Africa at the next meeting of the Sperry-Galligar Audubon Society on Thursday, August 27. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in Room 102, Yates Hall, on the Pittsburg State University campus. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Johnson, a 2012 PSU graduate, said she applied for the opportunity to volunteer with White Shark Africa because of her passion for sharks and her desire to do more to help protect them from the threats they face from humans and a changing environment.

This past June, Johnson worked with other volunteers in Mossel Bay, South Africa.

“I attained quite a bit of information regarding the threats we are posing on our oceans,” Johnson said. “I worked directly with sharks specifically, but other skates and rays as well. I also did some volunteer work for a sea bird and African penguin rehabilitation center.”

Now back in the U.S., Johnson said she is eager to share what she has learned and has developed a program for presentation in schools and other venues.
