PALS presents a cappella singing sensation, The Filharmonic

Fans of the NBC hit musical competition, “The Sing-Off,” as well as the movie, “Pitch Perfect 2,” have something to look forward to when the a cappella group The Filharmonic comes to Pittsburg State University’s Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The Filharmonic will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31, as part of the university’s Performing Arts and Lecture Series.

Based in Los Angeles, The Filharmonic is a group of Filipino-American youngsters who were featured on the fourth season of “The Sing-Off.” The group made the semi-finals, sharing the stage with Linkin Park, the Black Eyed Peas and Pentatonix. Following their success on “The Sing-Off,” The Filharmonic was featured in the movie “Pitch Perfect 2.”

The Filharmonic began through chance encounters at college singing competitions, where the group’s six members, VJ Rosales, Joe Caigoy, Trace Gaynor, Barry Fortgang, Jules Cruz, and Niko Del Rey, discovered a shared love of music and performance.

The Filharmonic’s style has been described as urbanesque, hip hop and influenced by ‘90s nostalgia. More information about the Filharmonic, including music samples and YouTube videos, can be found on their website, http://www.thefilharmonic.com.

Tickets for the Filharmonic are $10 for PSU faculty and staff, children and senior citizens; and $15 for the general public. PSU students are admitted free with valid ID. Tickets for PSU students go on sale Monday, August 17. Tickets for the general public go on sale Monday, August 24

The PSU Ticket Office, which is open from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, is located in the Weede PE Building, 1701 S. Homer. For more information about purchasing tickets, call 620-235-4796 or visit their website, www.pittstate.edu/tickets.
