GIT student lives dream at Warped Tour

Casey Steinmiller loves taking pictures and attending music concerts.

So days don’t get much better than July 30, 2015 for the senior graphics and imaging technologies major.

Steinmiller, who launched Steinmiller Productions last year, was hired by Media World Inc. to photograph the Vans Warped Tour, the popular rock concert series, during its stop in the Kansas City area.

“It was an absolutely crazy, incredible experience,” Steinmiller said. “Concert photography is a true passion of mine, so to be at Vans Warped Tour with my camera and a press pass was a dream come true. You get to be front row with your camera at some amazing shows, and it’s absolutely awesome.”

Steinmiller said the opportunity to photograph the Warped Tour began when he met World Media President Xander Nicolai during a photography seminar at Pittsburg State’s Kansas Technology Center.

“I mentioned to him that I’m really into concert photography and that I’d love to help his company doing that type of work, particularly at the Warped Tour,” he said.

It wasn’t until the week of the Warped Tour that Steinmiller got his answer.

“I got an e-mail from them early that week asking if I’m available to shoot the concert,” he said. “I started freaking out. I was working out at the rec center when I read the e-mail, and I think some people thought something was wrong with me. I was just so excited for the opportunity.”

His photos from Warped Tour have been published by MonkeyGoose Magazine, a rock music publication in Houston, Texas.

Steinmiller hopes the Warped Tour experience is the next step in his pursuit of a concert photography career. He’s already made a name for himself in the Pittsburg area, as he’s photographed several local and regional shows.

“I’ve shot a lot of concerts both in Pittsburg and in the surrounding area,” he said. “I love it. I love capturing the moment and being able to re-live it through pictures.”
