Construction alumni raise $58K for scholarships

Faculty, staff and alumni of the Pittsburg State School of Construction came together this summer to raise money for the program’s current and future students.

The annual Construction Alumni Gorilla Golf Classic Series, conducted by the Pittsburg State University Construction Alumni Association, raises money for scholarships and to support the construction program at Pitt State. This year’s events in Pittsburg, Kansas City and Wichita raised a combined $58,000, according to Joe Levens, assistant professor and key organizer of the series.

Levens said a fourth golf tournament in northwest Arkansas may be added to this year’s slate.

“We’re looking adding a fourth tournament to both raise more money for scholarships and to connect with those alumni we have down in northwest Arkansas,” he said. “That’s what is great about this golf series. We raise valuable dollars, yes, but we also get to reconnect with our alumni and industry partners in their respective areas. Plus, we have a little fun while we’re at it.”

Since the creation of the Pittsburg State University Construction Alumni Association, 473 scholarships totaling more than $411,000 have been awarded.
