'Beauty and the Beast' matinee added to Broadway series

By popular demand, a matinee performance of “Beauty and the Beast” has been added to the lineup of shows for Pittsburg State’s “Best of Broadway” series.

The matinee performance will take place at 2 p.m. on March 23 at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The evening performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on March 22.

Kathleen Flannery, interim vice president for university advancement, said series’ promoter, ShoFar Concerts, was able to add the matinee performance due to the show’s popularity and high demand for tickets.

“We are very excited by the high level of interest in our first ‘Best of Broadway’ series,” Flannery said. “Being able to add a matinee of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ means even more people will be able to view this fantastic performance. This is great news for the university and the community.”

Those purchasing matinee season tickets to “Mamma Mia” and “Million Dollar Quartet” will also be able to purchase tickets to the matinee performance of “Beauty and the Beast.” Details and pricing are available at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts website.

“Those wanting to purchase season tickets for the matinee performances of ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘The Million Dollar Quartet’ will have the option of adding the ticket for ‘Beauty and the Beast,” said Jill Minneman, director of the PSU Ticket Office. “The additional ticket is optional, but it cannot be purchased outside of the regular season ticket.”

Season tickets have been available through ShoFar Concerts website since July 21. With the start of the new semester however, ticket sales will now be available only through the PSU ticket office.

“This series has great interest on campus and the community,” said Joe Firman, director of the Bicknell Center. “We wanted to make certain students and faculty also have the opportunity to take advantage of these great shows.”

Season tickets for full-time PSU students, faculty and staff and Via Christi employees will be available during a special sale on Friday, August 14 at 8:30 a.m. at the PSU Ticket office. A limited number of reduced price tickets will be available thanks, in part, to the series’ underwriter Via Christi Hospital.

Those wishing to purchase a discounted ticket must bring a valid PSU or Via Christi photo ID. There is a limit of one discounted ticket per ID. Total ticket sales are limited to six per person.

The PSU ticket office will offer season tickets to the general public on August 19.

Any remaining individual show tickets will be available on Tuesday, September 8.

Pre-sale tickets to the series, which features national Broadway touring performances of “Mamma Mia,” “The Million Dollar Quartet,” and “Beauty and the Beast,” have been open to the general public through ShoFar Concerts since Tuesday, July 21.

“The response has been nothing short of amazing,” said Firman. “Our producer, ShoFar Concerts, sold more than 500 tickets during the first 72 hours. We knew the Bicknell Center would offer our region new opportunities. It’s wonderful to see Broadway fans respond with such vigor.”
