Alumni give lead gift for Kelce College of Business building project

Pittsburg State University President Steve Scott used the opening faculty and staff meeting on Thursday to announce the receipt of a $3 million pledged gift for facility improvements at the Kelce College of Business. The pledge is the largest single gift in the history of the Kelce College of Business and comes from Pittsburg State alumni John and Susan Lowe, of Houston, Texas.

“This is an important day for the Kelce College of Business,” said Scott. “John and Susan understand the difference a quality education can make in a student’s life because they experienced it for themselves at Pittsburg State. Their lead gift will allow us to develop plans for a facility that meets the needs of tomorrow’s business leaders.”

The Lowes’ pledge includes an immediate gift that will be used in the program and design phase of the building project.

“There’s no doubt we have some of the finest faculty and programs in the nation,” said Paul Grimes, dean of the Kelce College of Business. “But our current facility is a bit limiting. The Lowes are investing in our future because they understand the importance of our mission. Their gift will benefit future generations of Gorillas.”

John Lowe is a senior executive adviser for Tudor Pickering Holt & Co., an energy investment and banking firm. Lowe spent more than 30 years with ConocoPhillips and predecessor firms, where he held a series of executive positions, including executive vice president of exploration & production; executive vice president of commercial; and executive vice president of planning, strategy and corporate affairs. He is on the board of directors of Phillips 66 and Apache Corporation, serving as chairman of the board at Apache. He is a former board member of Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LLC, Agrium Inc., DCP Midstream, LLC and DCP Midstream GP, LLC, the general partner of DCP Midstream Partners, LP.

Lowe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and accounting from Pittsburg State University in 1981. Susan Lowe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and finance, also in 1981. The Lowes have two daughters, Katie and Anne-Marie.

The Kelce College of Business is one of fewer than 700 universities in the world to have earned accreditation from Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AASCB). It has been recognized by national publications, including the Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine, for its academics, faculty and affordability.

The Kelce College of Business is home to more than 1,000 students, earning degrees in accounting, computer information systems, economics, finance, international business, management and marketing. The Kelce MBA program is widely respected, earning numerous national rankings over the past several years.
