Pitt State launches mobile app Aug. 3

The unique split-face logo of Pittsburg State University can be seen on items ranging from shirts and hats to license plates and Frisbees. Soon, it will be available on mobile devices.

The university’s first mobile app will launch on Monday, Aug. 3. It is a free app that will be available to download from the Google Play and iOS App stores. It can be found by searching for “Pitt State” in the app stores.

The app was designed by John Kuefler, an applications developer in Pitt State’s Office of Information Services. Kuefler said the app will serve many purposes for university students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters.

“The Pitt State app allows the PSU community to get engaged,” Kuefler said. “Students can check their class schedule, where to go for classes, tuition and fee statements, and they can find out how to get in touch with their instructors and advisers. We also can send special alerts to students through the app, to let them know about important deadlines or things they need to do to stay on track.”

For non-students, the app also serves as an effective way to stay up-to-date with university events, activities and news.

“Everyone can see upcoming events at Pitt State, read university news, and keep tabs on Pitt State social media,” he said. “Best of all, any app user can submit feedback and ideas right through the app about how we could improve it. That feedback goes straight to the developers, and we listen to those ideas.”

Kuefler said the app was designed with students in mind, as it was students who expressed a need for the app.

“We’ve needed an app because our students told us for a long time that they wanted one, and we listen to the students,” he said.

Gregor Kalan, Pitt State’s director of web marketing, said the app is a valuable addition to the university’s communication strategy.

“Mobile is king when we’re talking about communication,” he said. “The Pitt State app will be a tremendous boost to the way we communicate with our constituents and to how they communicate with us.”
