Pitt State asks fans to Stripe the Stadium

Pittsburg State University football fans will have an opportunity to show their support for the Gorillas in an entirely new way at the school’s home opener with Lindenwood University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 12. The school will host its first-ever “Stripe the Stadium” promotion and organizers are asking fans to wear red or gold, based upon where they sit in Carnie Smith Stadium.

“We wanted to give fans a fun way to show their Gorilla pride on game day,” said Marissa Poppe, assistant athletic director for strategic partnerships and community outreach. “It’s a great way to show your team spirit and fits perfectly with our Chamber’s ‘Paint the Town Red’ promotion.”

Maps have been created to help fans select which color to wear on game day. Fans in the “RED” sections should wear red while fans in the “GOLD” sections will be asked to wear gold.

“We’ve seen this done at Division I universities but rarely at the Division II level,” said Poppe. “Primarily, because it needs a larger stadium and an active fan base to be successful. We have the stadium, and thanks to Gorilla Nation we have the fans. We can’t wait to see the results at the home opener.”

Fans are encouraged to visit local and online retailers to purchase the latest officially licensed Gorilla Gear. Interested fans can also purchase Pittsburg State’s official 2015-16 Spirit Tee, which comes in both red and gold, at local retailers starting on August 25.

Fans sitting in sections LL, NN, PP, QQ, SS, UU and P on the east side of Carnie Smith Stadium should wear GOLD. All other fans including those with student or general admission tickets on the east side should wear RED.

Fans sitting in sections A, C, G and I on the west side of Carnie Smith Stadium should wear GOLD. All other fans on the west side should wear RED.

Single-game football tickets go on sale Monday, August 10. Visit pittstategorillas.com for ticket information.
