Threat of furloughs ends

Late today (Saturday, June 6), Gov. Sam Brownback announced that he would sign a bill passed by both the House and the Senate designating all State of Kansas employees as essential, thereby eliminating the need for the furloughs we prepared for on Monday.

According to the Department of Administration “all State of Kansas employees should report to work or request leave in accordance with their regular work schedules.  All previously approved leave of any type will be recorded and may be utilized as normal.”

The Legislature still hasn’t resolved the budget and revenue issues that created the possibilities of furloughs, but today’s actions ensure that state employees can continue to serve as they normally would as the lawmakers continue to try to find common ground.

We thank all of the loyal PSU employees who have been so patient through this trying time and want to reassure you that we will continue to advocate for you and the service you provide every day of the year.
