Sandness named staff physician at Bryant Student Health Center

Kathleen Sandness’ long relationship with Pittsburg State University has gotten even stronger. Sandness, who has served as the contracting physician for PSU’s Bryant Student Health Center since 2011, has been named staff physician at the health center.

“The opportunity to have Dr. Sandness join the staff of the Bryant Student Health Center is an exciting opportunity in the growth and development of that facility and the services offered to students,” said Steve Erwin, vice president for student life. “Her years of experience, connection to the local medical community, continuing involvement with Via Christi, and desire to immerse herself in the world of college student health presents a unique combination of attributes that will serve the campus and students in significant ways.”

“What an honor and privilege it is to come to PSU and to work at the Bryant Student Health Center!” Sandness said. “I look forward to working with the excellent staff here and continuing to deliver top quality mental and physical health care to our students. We shall remain vigilant in prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, wound care, wellness, and health maintenance. This is a first-rate clinic with top-notch providers who have always put our students first. I am excited about continuing to be part of that tradition and this team.”

Sandness, a 1983 PSU graduate, maintained a private practice in Pittsburg for more than 20 years. She earned her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Throughout her busy medical career, Sandness has continued to support her alma mater and particularly students in PSU’s highly successful pre-med programs, where she mentored many students. For her efforts, Sandness received the Ralf J. Thomas Distinguished Service Award in 2011 and the PSU Outstanding Alumni Award in 2002.
