PSU to hold 111th spring commencement exercises Friday and Saturday

More than 1,260 students are eligible to participate in Pittsburg State University’s 111th spring commencement exercises on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, in PSU’s John Lance Arena. It is the largest graduating class in PSU’s history, according to Registrar Debbie Greve.

To accommodate the large numbers, the university will hold four ceremonies. For most of the students earning degrees out of the College of Arts and Sciences, commencement will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. At 8 p.m., students from the Arts and Sciences departments of art, communication and history, philosophy and social sciences will join students from the Kelce College of Business for their commencement ceremony.

At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, students from the College of Education will graduate, followed by students from the College of Technology at noon.

PSU officials said breaking commencement into four relatively equal ceremonies allows friends and family to share in this special event and makes it more comfortable for everyone.

Parking is available in the lots to the west and at the Kansas Technology Center.

Graduates who wish to participate in the tradition of ringing the Centennial Bell may do so between 1 and 11 p.m. on Friday and from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday.

In conjunction with commencement, the Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing will hold its Nurse Pinning ceremony at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

Also in conjunction with commencement, the PSU Army ROTC will hold a commissioning ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday at the PSU Veterans Memorial. In case of rain, the event will take place in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

Each of the commencement ceremonies will be live-streamed on www.pittstate.tv.
