Wood tech faculty named Educators of the Year

Pittsburg State wood technology faculty Doug Hague and Charlie Phillips were recently honored as Educators of the Year at the Wood Industry Conference in San Antonio, Texas.

The annual awards are given by the Wood Machinery Industry Association from nominations supplied by woodworking technology companies.  The Educator Award is given annually to faculty within an educational institution or company with a structured curriculum tailored to training individuals for careers in the woodworking industry.

According to the Wood Working Network, Hague and Phillips were honored for conducting the Boot Camp session at the Wood Technology Industry Institute, which took place at Pittsburg State’s Kansas Technology Center.

“It’s an incredible honor for me and Charlie to receive this award, especially since it comes from our peers in the wood technology industry,” said Hague, assistant professor of wood technology.

Phillips, assistant professor of wood technology, said while he’s honored by the award, he and Hague are most passionate about their roles in the lives of students.

“Getting an award like this is such a thrill, and we couldn’t be more thankful,” he said. “The main thing for us, though, is making sure we’re always doing our best for the students. That’s why we do what we do. We love teaching, and being honored as a top educator is definitely a thrilling highlight of our careers.”
