Unique toy sale set for Thursday

A toy sale unlike any other will take place on Pittsburg State University’s Oval Thursday. Students in the class “Toy Design” will offer their creations for sale from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. Profits from the sale will go to the Safehouse crisis center.

Portico Bowman, from the Department of Art, and Norm Philipp, from the School of Construction, teach the class, which encourages students to blend art and design with technology like 3-D printing and computer programming in ways that engage children.

Bowman said the students’ creations are sure to sell quickly.

“Last year we were sold out by noon,” she said.

The creations include Lisa Bogart’s “Fidget Jewelry,” which promises to entertain children with ADHD; Charles Breedlove’s “Invento, The Electric Wizard,” which introduces children to coding and electronics; Ashley Warner’s “Labyrinthium,” a game of strategy; Christen Wheat’s card action game “Wait What?!” and more.
