PSU names 2015 student employee of the year

Every now and then, an employee exceeds expectations in just about every way. That’s what one person wrote of Megan Meyer in nominating her for the 2015 Pittsburg State University Student Employee of the Year Award.

Meyer, a senior from Spring Hill, Kan., was named PSU’s Student Employee of the Year for the contributions she made as a student employee in Technology and Workforce Learning.

Meyer’s supervisors said she played an important role in the planning for the Great Gorilla Games STEM Expo for 450 area high school students and in planning the International STEM Education Association conference planning in Branson, Mo.

She used her skills as a graphic communications major to develop a website, printed materials and signage.

“One of Megan’s greatest qualities is her leadership and self-motivation,” her supervisor wrote. “Her quiet and pleasant demeanor make it easy for others to work with Megan, but she has the confidence and ability to speak to large audiences with articulation and ease.”

Mindy Cloninger, director of the Office of Career Services, which sponsors the annual Student Employee of the Year recognition, said the accolades for Meyer sound familiar.

“It’s impossible to overstate the important role that hundreds of student employees play on our campus,” Cloninger said. “Every day students are taking on responsibilities and completing tasks that make this large organization run. At the same time, they are demonstrating a work ethic and honing personal and professional skills that make them very desirable for employers who hire our graduates.”

Since her selection as the PSU Student Employee of the Year, she has also been named the 2015 Student Employee of the Year for the state of Kansas, as well.
