Trumpet virtuoso performs at PSU

Internationally acclaimed trumpeter Mark Clodfelter will perform a guest recital at 6 p.m. on Sat., March 7, in McCray Hall’s Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall on the Pittsburg State University Campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

Mark Clodfelter publicity shotClodfelter, who has been nominated multiple times for the Grammy Award, has appeared as a soloist in some of the finest performance venues around the world. He performs regularly as principal trumpet for the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, with the Trade Winds (Tampa, Fla.) and as a member of the North Charleston Pops Orchestra. Clodfelter is member of Covalence, a chamber duo, with Rebecca Wilt, his wife and renowned collaborative pianist.

Clodfelter has recorded extensively in styles ranging from classical to rock. He has also appeared with such headliners as The O' Jays, Gladys Knight, Mannheim Steam Roller, the Moody Blues, the Lettermen, Doc Severinson, Bob Mintzer, Frank Mantooth, Lou Rawls, Glen Campbell and Ray Charles.

Clodfelter serves as a professor of trumpet at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro. During the decade prior to this appointment, he was professor of trumpet at the University of Kentucky. Additionally, he was co-conductor of the Blue Grass Area Jazz Ambassadors and the Central Kentucky Youth Jazz Orchestra. Clodfelter holds a bachelor of music education degree from Lenoir-Rhyne College and a master of music degree from the North Carolina School of the Arts.
