Discussion focuses on SEK women and poverty

In recognition of March as Women’s History Month, the Pittsburg State University Women’s Studies program will host a panel discussion featuring some of the people and organizations that work every day to make a difference in the lives of Southeast Kansas women. The program, which is supported by SEK Women Helping Women: a Fairy Godmother’s Fund, will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, in Room 307 of Grubbs Hall.

The program is entitled “Women and Poverty: Look for the Helpers” and is free and open to the public.

The panel will include Megan Stoneberger Johnson of Women Helping Women; Pastor Marcee Binder, executive director of Wesley House; Rebecca Brubaker, executive director of the Safehouse Crisis Center; and Cheryl Mayo, director of Mother to Mother Ministry.

The speakers will discuss the effects of poverty on women and feature what local agencies are doing to help local women in need, including information for the public about how to get involved.
