University Bands to perform spring concert

The Pittsburg State University Bands will present their first concert of the spring semester at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Symphonic Band, under the leadership of Doug Whitten, will open the program and will perform four selections. Their part of the program will include “Provenance,” by Robert W. Smith; “March Five,” by William Latham, “Lux Aurumque,” by Eric Whitacre; and and “Rumble on the High Plains,” by Michael Sweeney.
Following a brief intermission, the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Craig Fuchs, will take the stage. The ensemble will perform “The Duke of Marlborough Fanfare,” by Percy Grainger; “A Festival Prelude,” by Alfred Reed and conducted by graduate conducting student Jennifer Whyte; “Ride,” by Samuel Hazo; Symphony No. 3, “Slavanaskya,” by Boris Kozhevnikov; and “Armenian Dances,” by Alfred Reed.
