Tickets go on sale Monday for Laura Bush

Pittsburg State University students have had their opportunity this week to purchase tickets to hear an address by former First Lady Laura Bush and now the public will get their turn.

A limited number of tickets were set aside for students to purchase for just $5 on Thursday and Friday. The remainder of the tickets go on sale to the general public at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, and PSU officials expect the demand to be great.

Bush will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts as part of PSU’s Women in Government Lecture series, supported by a grant from the Helen S. Boylan Foundation and Names and Numbers.

For decades, Bush has championed key issues in the fields of education, health care, and human rights. The author of the best-selling memoir, “Spoken From The Heart,” she also founded the Texas Book Festival and the National Book Festival in Washington D.C. Today, as the chair of the Women’s Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute, Mrs. Bush continues her work on global health care innovations, empowering women in emerging democracies, education reform and supporting the men and women who have served America’s military.

“Laura Bush continues our tradition of welcoming acclaimed political leaders to our campus,” said Kathleen Flannery, Women in Government committee member. “These women are helping shape our nation’s political future and we’re excited to be able to include the former first lady among our honored guests. We appreciate the support of the Boylan Foundation and Names and Numbers in making this lecture possible.”

Tickets for Laura Bush are $35 for the general public and $30 for PSU faculty, staff and students, persons 65 and older and for children 18 and under. Some ticket limits apply.

In addition to the Women in Government Lecture, tickets are also available for the Bicknell Center grand opening celebration, “A Tribute to America and the Arts: Gene Bicknell in Concert,” on Thursday, March 12; the Steinway Society Concert by David Osborne, “Pianist to the Presidents;” and many other Bicknell Center events.

Tickets may be purchased at the PSU Ticket Office in the Weede Physical Education Building, 1701 S. Homer, 620-235-4796, or online at www.bicknellcenter.com.
