McCracken named to state emergency management team

As director of Pittsburg State’s police and parking services, Mike McCracken helps ensure the safety and security of the university and its students, faculty, staff and visitors. He will soon apply those skills on a state level.

McCracken has been named to the Kansas Region 7 (southeast Kansas) Incident Management Team. The regional teams, functions of the Kansas Department of Emergency Management, provide assistance to state and local agencies during disasters and other emergencies in Kansas and surrounding states.

“I am very honored to be selected for the Region 7 team,” McCracken said. “It’s a privilege for me personally, and I’m proud to represent Pittsburg State at the state level.”

McCracken said the main function of the regional teams is to respond to and provide management of disaster situations.

“We come in to help with situations that are too big for local authorities to handle on their own,” he said. “Emergency management teams are seen in situations such as the Greensburg and Joplin tornadoes, the flood in Coffeyville and other emergencies on that scale.”

McCracken’s term on the management team will last for two years.
