Materials scientist to deliver polymer lecture

Christopher Kemper Ober, the Francis Norwood Bard Professor of Materials Engineering in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University, will give a public talk on polymers in nanotechnology at Pittsburg State University on Friday, Feb. 27. Ober will discuss “Making Structures the Length Scale of Molecules” at 3 p.m. in 102 Yates Hall. His presentation is part of PSU’s Distinguished Polymer Lecturer Series.

Ober will spend two days on the PSU campus, meeting with faculty and students in PSU’s Polymer Chemistry program and scientists at the Kansas Polymer Research Center.

For his public presentation, Ober will talk about the use of lithography in mincroelectronics manufacture and the future as that technology strives to reach ever higher resolution. He will talk about the approaches researchers are using to develop the light-sensitive materials upon which today’s printed circuit boards, integrated circuits and other technologies rely.

Ober earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada; and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
