Bush tickets sell out quickly

The line to purchase tickets for former First Lady Laura Bush’s appearance on April 22 began forming almost two hours before the PSU Ticket Office opened at 8:30 a.m. today and a little more than 90 minutes later, the last of the tickets had been snatched up.

Jill Minneman, director of ticket operations, said they were prepared for the onslaught.

“We knew there was a lot of interest in this program,” Minneman said. “Normally on a Monday morning, I have one student working one station.”

But on this day, Minneman had students working all three of the walk-up counter stations and two taking telephone orders. At the same time, people were purchasing tickets online.

Bush’s visit is part of PSU’s Women in Government Lecture series and is supported by a grant from the Helen S. Boylan Foundation and Names and Numbers.

Minneman said there are a number of major events scheduled at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts in the coming weeks that are keeping her office busy. Those include the PSU Theatre’s production of “Eurydice,” Feb. 26-March 1; “A Tribute to America and the Arts: Gene Bicknell in Concert,” on March 12; the illusionist Reza, on March 25; the Steinway Society concert by David Osborne, “Pianist to the Presidents,” on April 7; and “STOMP,” on April 13.

“The opening of the Bicknell Center has certainly had an impact on our office, which is a reflection of the kind of impact it is already having on the community and the region,” Minneman said.
