PSU to compete in WSU business plan contest

Kelce College of Business students will soon have a unique opportunity to develop and potentially launch their own business ventures.

Pittsburg State is again participating in the Shocker New Venture Competition, an annual competition hosted by Wichita State University. The contest challenges students to create a business plan that could potentially receive start-up capital in the form of prize money.

“This competition is a wonderful way to get students thinking about what it takes to create a business,” said Professor Kevin Bracker. “They gain valuable experience and could even win a nice amount of cash at the end of it.”

The teams’ business plans are judged at various stages, and the top 20 teams are invited to the Trade Show on the WSU campus on April 24. There, judges evaluate the business plans and talk to the students about their ideas. The finalists are chosen from the top 20, and the winners are announced at a special awards ceremony.

Bracker said teams from Pitt State qualified for the Trade show in 2014, and he’s hoping for similar success this year.

“We have some remarkable students here with great ideas, and I’m anxious to see how far we can go in this competition,” he said.

Anyone with questions about the competition or students who want to sign up for the contest should contact Bracker at kbracker@pittstate.edu.
