Planetarium show examines the fall sky

Four-state residents will have an opportunity to learn about the current night sky, including Mars and Jupiter, the two bright planets currently visible, during a special program at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, in Pittsburg State University’s L. Russell Kelce Planetarium.

David Kuehn, interim chair of PSU’s Department of Physics, will take participants on a tour of the portion of the universe they can see from their back yards this time of year and will also discuss the latest news from NASA. He’ll also share some of the interesting results from the Cassini spacecraft at Saturn. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Kuehn, a University Professor at PSU, earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from PSU and a Ph.D. in astronomy from New Mexico State University. His areas of academic specialty include planetary astronomy, computational physics and scientific instrument development.

PSU’s L. Russell Kelce Planetarium is located in Yates Hall, 1702 S. Joplin Street, on the PSU campus. This year the planetarium is observing its 50th anniversary of operation.

Admission for the program is $3 for adults and $2 for seniors and students.
