Choirs present fall concert

The Choirs of Pittsburg State University will present their annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, in the Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall. The ensembles are under the direction of Susan Marchant. The concert is free and open to the public.
Marchant, Shu Zhang and Jung Hee Lee will serve as pianists for the choirs, and organist Ian Classe will be featured in the performance of works by Louis Vierne, Charles Ives, and John McCabe. Other instrumentalists will include cellist Maria Goydy Rios and a quartet of percussionists from the studio of James Clanton. Vocal soloists will include Jung Hee Lee, Madison Youngberg-King, Michaela Wagner, Daniel McDill, and Mariah Bush. Student conductors will include Jee Yeun Kim and Ian Classe.
The concert will be drawn from the following music: “O Sacrum Convivium,” by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina; “The Reapers all with their sharp sickles,” by Seth Houston; “Sehnsucht,” Op. 112, No. 1, by Johannes Brahms; “Psalm 90,” by Charles Ives; “The Deer’s Cry,” by Arvo Pärt; “Killing me softly with his song,” arranged by Paris Rutherford; “I’ve got you under my skin,” by Cole Porter and arranged by Phil Mattson; “Kyrie” (from “Messe Solennelle,” Op. 16) by Louis Vierne; “Misericordias Domini,” K. 222, by W.A. Mozart; “In the night we shall go in,” by Imant Raminsh; “Arirang,” a Korean folksong arranged by Mark Templeton; “Spark,” by Eric William Barnum; “Shenandoah,” arranged by Mack Wilberg; “Till there was you,” by Meredith Wilson and arranged by David Giardiniere; and “Great Lord of Lords,” by John McCabe.
