PSU receives women in construction awards

Pittsburg State University earned several awards this week at an anniversary celebration for the Southeast Kansas chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction.
The event, conducted Monday, Oct. 20, was the first for the local NAWIC chapter.
“We wanted to come together as a group not only to celebrate the anniversary of the formation of our chapter, but also to celebrate successes of our members,” said Jenny McCool-O’Dell, PSU construction faculty member and new president of the SEK NAWIC chapter.
The Pittsburg State School of Construction earned the Best Collaboration Award for its education and outreach of women in the construction industry.
Tracy Bevilacqua, administrative specialist, in the School of Construction earned the Presidential Spotlight Award for her efforts in the development of the local chapter.
Pitt State construction management major Susan Martin was honored with the Student Rising Star Award.
Also at the event, Crossland Construction was named Best Industry Sponsor for its role in chartering the SEK chapter.
“Overall, it was a great event in honor of a great group of women dedicated to the construction industry,” McCool-O’Dell said. “We’re very excited to see what’s next for our local NAWIC group.”
