PSU mourns death of student

Pittsburg State University President Steve Scott issued the following statement upon learning of the death of 20-year-old PSU student Taylor C. Thomas. According to Pittsburg Police, Thomas died shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday as a result of an injury suffered during a disturbance at 907 N. Taylor in Pittsburg, Kan.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Thomas family,” said President Scott. “There are few things more difficult than losing someone so unexpectedly and at such a young age. I extend my deepest sympathies to Taylor’s family and friends, and offer condolences on behalf of the entire Pittsburg State University community.”
Thomas was in his junior year and majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Grief counselors are being made available to the campus community.
Pittsburg State University offers counseling and support to students experiencing bereavement and grief. Students wanting to talk to a counselor should contact University Counseling Service, Bryant Student Health Center at 620-235-4452 to arrange for an appointment.
