PSU hosts first of two career fairs for students

An improving economy and tight space on campus have combined to move Pittsburg State University’s Office of Career Services to offer two separate career fairs this fall. The first will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center. The second is scheduled for Nov. 6 in the same location.

Mindy Cloninger, director of the Office of Career Services, said she expects about 100 companies and organizations to participate in the two fairs. That’s much improved from just a few years ago, when companies were feeling the effects of a struggling economy.

The career fairs are designed to allow students to learn more about career and internship opportunities in a wide variety of companies and businesses. Construction in the Overman Student Center, where the career fair is held, prompted Career Services to break the career fair into two smaller events.

Cloninger said that because most businesses will attend only one of the two days, students should plan on attending both.

“One benefit of breaking the event into two is that it should be a little less crowded in the ballroom and students may have a little more time to visit with company representatives,” Cloninger said.

Cloninger reminded students that if they need professional attire for either of the career fairs, they may take advantage of the free clothing available to them in the Career Clothes Closet in Horace Mann.
