Acclaimed pianist to perform

Pittsburg State University’s 2014-15 Solo and Chamber Music Series continues on Friday, Oct. 10, with a performance by the award-winning pianist Yael Weiss. The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall, 205 E Lindburg, on the PSU campus.
Weiss has performed across the U.S., Europe, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and South America at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Benaroya Hall, Moscow’s Bolshoi Hall and London’s Wigmore Hall. Her discography encompasses piano works by over a dozen composers, with two releases, “Robert Schumann: Piano Works” and “88 Keys to Joy”, on the Koch International Classics label.
A frequent guest on NPR’s “Performance Today,” American Public Media’s “St. Paul Sunday,” and the BBC in London, Weiss is known to radio and television audiences worldwide.
In addition to her career as a soloist, Weiss is also a devoted chamber musician and tours worldwide with violinist Mark Kaplan and cellist Clancy Newman as the Weiss-Kaplan-Newman Trio.
For her Pittsburg program, Weiss will perform Chopin’s “Barcarolle,” Op. 60; Joel Feigin’s Prelude to a Sonata; Beethoven’s Sonata in D major, Op. 28, “Pastoral;” Lera Auerbach’s “Ludwig’s Nightmare;” and Beethoven’s Sonata in F minor, Op. 57, “Appassionata.”
Tickets are $12 for the general public and $8 for persons over 65 or under 18. Full-time PSU students are admitted for free. Tickets are available in advance at the PSU Ticket Office in the Weede Physical Education Building, 1701 S. Homer, 620-235-4796, or at the door on the evening of the concert.
