Sell-out expected for Family Day game

Tickets for this weekend’s Family Day game at Carnie Smith Stadium between the No. 8 Gorillas and the Fort Hays State Tigers are nearly gone. No tickets will be sold at the stadium ticket booths on game day.
“At this point we just have a few standing room only (SRO) tickets remaining,” said Jim Johnson, intercollegiate athletics director. “Our ticket office will remain open until 4 p.m. today at which point we’ll stop selling tickets and officially declare the game sold-out. It should make for an incredible Family Day atmosphere.”
Additional bleachers have been placed just outside of the south end zone to accommodate the more than 1,000 end-zone and SRO tickets that have been sold.
“We’re asking those with end-zone and SRO tickets to enter the stadium on the east side,” explained Johnson. “They will be able to access their seats through Section S inside the stadium at the southern-most field gate opening.”
As in the past, the sell-out declaration will mean that no tickets will be sold at the stadium on Saturday, although the will call window will remain open for those who purchased tickets in advance and for player’s families.
Packed stadiums are nothing new for Pittsburg State, which has hosted sell-out crowds in eight of its last 11 home games.
“Our fans are absolutely incredible,” said Johnson. “They understand the game, and the role that they play in making Carnie Smith Stadium one of the toughest places in the nation to play.”
The September 27 game is also “Family Day” at Pittsburg State University and will feature activities throughout the day.
“Our alumni and students love this game because it gives them an opportunity to create and share so many great memories,” said Jon Bartlow, director of alumni and constituent relations. “We’re especially excited to host our first ever Family Day Fiesta in conjunction with the Office of Student Diversity and the Campus Activity Center. It should be a great day for our fans and their families.”
The Gorillas’ matchup with Fort Hays on Sept. 27 will kick off at 2 p.m. and be televised by the MIAA Television Network. The network can be seen throughout the state of Kansas on Cox Cable and Eagle Communication, in Kansas City on KSMO-TV, in St. Joseph, Mo., on the News-Press NOW channel and in select markets in Oklahoma and Arkansas on Cox Cable.
Fans can also listen to the radio broadcast of the game on Pittsburg State University’s official radio home for the Gorillas, 860 AM, KKOW.
