Winzer named Phi Kappa Phi regional VP

Pittsburg State University Engineering Technology Professor Randy Winzer has been named a regional vice president for Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest honor society in the U.S.

Winzer will serve as the society’s vice president of the south central region, which includes Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. He is a member and past president of Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 213 at Pittsburg State.

“This is a tremendous honor for me, as Phi Kappa Phi is an organization that I hold close and dear to my heart,” Winzer said. “As regional VP, I will continue to be a servant-leader, and I will do all I can to advance the society’s mission and vision for all of our members.”

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. The society has chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities in North America and the Philippines. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Chapter 213 at Pittsburg State was chartered on May 8, 1979.

Winzer has a long history with Phi Kappa Phi at PSU. He was on the Chapter 213 initiation team in 2003, and he served as president from 2004 to 2013. He is also a member of the scholarship and awards committee.

“As chapter president, I saw my role as a servant-leader and academic apostle, spreading the gospel of excellence in higher education,” he said. “I foresee this spirit continuing to motivate me as I recruit and recognize initiates who embody Phi Kappa Phi’s values.”
