Fair connects students, community

For two hours, Wednesday, representatives of businesses and organizations tempted PSU students with everything from pizza and home-baked cookies to water bottles and book bags. The primary goal at PSU’s annual community fair was to get the students’ attention, and it worked.

Eva Sager, assistant director for campus activities, said the event highlights how important students are to the community.

It’s not just about business. In addition to banks, restaurants, salons and other businesses, a variety of social service and religious organizations were reaching out to students, as well.

Representatives for Crawford County Big Brothers and Big Sisters, for example, collected names of potential volunteers.

“We especially need Big Brothers,” said Megan Corrigan, who was helping staff the table.

Everyone is aware of the financial benefit students bring to the community, Sager said, but they also enhance the quality of life in Pittsburg through their participation in a wide variety of things.
