Dainty named Teacher of the Year

A Pittsburg State faculty member has been recognized for excellence in the field of career and technical education.

Julie Dainty, assistant professor in PSU’s Technology and Workforce Learning Department, was named the Postsecondary Teacher of the Year by the Kansas Association for Career and Technical Education (K-ACTE).

The K-ACTE is an organization that promotes excellence in career and technical education, and the annual awards are given to teachers who “have made extraordinary contributions” to career and technical education.

Dainty, who has been a member of the PSU faculty for more than 10 years, said she was “humbled” by the honor.

“There are so many amazing instructors across the state, and I’m honored to be chosen for this award,” she said. “It really could have gone to any of the outstanding educators in Kansas.”

In her role as PSU’s as part of the Technical Teacher Education program, Dainty provides continuing education for high school and postsecondary teachers in the field of career and technical education. She teaches during weekend workshops at PSU’s campus and in Salina.

Dainty earned a bachelor of science degree in vocational secondary family and consumer sciences from Pitt State in 1989. She earned a master of science degree in technical teacher education from PSU in 2008. She also received her education specialist degree from Pitt State.

As the recipient of this year’s state award, Dainty is now eligible to compete in regional competition in 2015.  If she wins the regional award, she will advance to national competition.
