When he got the word in early April, Pittsburg State senior Matt Heflin had a hard time believing he had qualified for national competition in the American Advertising Awards.
The most recent news was even harder to comprehend.
Heflin, an Oswego native, has won a national ADDY Award for his packaging design of Brew Chew, a product he describes as “an after-beverage gum.”
“It’s an incredible feeling,” Heflin said. “I never would have thought that could happen.”
There remains some suspense to the award, however, as he won’t find out if he won a gold or silver award until the May 31 award show and gala in Boca Raton, Fla.
“No matter what it is, I’m so just excited to be recognized at this level,” Heflin said. “It means a lot to me, and I can’t thank my professors at Pitt State enough for helping me get to this point.”
Heflin graduated this May with a degree in graphic design and has begun his professional career at Leggett & Platt in Carthage, Mo.
