Regents finish PSU campus visit

The Kansas Board of Regents completed a two-day visit to the Pittsburg State University campus Monday by meeting with groups of stakeholders in the Wilkinson Alumni Center.

As the meetings began, Fred Logan, chairman of the board, told a group of reporters that the visit had been a very positive experience.

“We visit each of the universities every two years,” Logan said. “It is so impressive to see what Pittsburg State University has accomplished in that time.”

Logan said board members spent time with students, as well as faculty and staff.

“We heard from students who are very appreciative of what they are learning here,” Logan said. “They believe they are getting a real bargain for the tuition they pay.”

President Steve Scott said the regents’ biennial visit is an opportunity not only to showcase the university, its programs, faculty, staff and students, but also to talk about its future.

“The regents are great advocates for Pittsburg State University and for higher education across the state,” Scott said. “It is important that they have a deep understanding of Pittsburg State and the role it plays both in students lives and across the region.”

Logan said the close ties between the university and the wider community were evident in meetings the regents had with community members.

“A good relationship between the university and the community is essential and will continue to grow in importance for higher education in the future,” Logan said.
