Judges pick sweet treats for Apple Day

Two panels of judges got serious about dessert on Wednesday for PSU’s annual Apple Pie and Dessert contest. The event leads into Thursday’s traditional Apple Day observance.

Eva Sager, program coordinator for Campus Activities, said one team was tasked with judging apple pie entries while the other took on other apple desserts.

This year there were 13 entries in the Apple Dessert category and 9 entries in the Pie category. Winners will be announced at the convocation on Thursday.

Apple Day festivities continue with a reception at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Wilkinson Alumni Center for the 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipients. The traditional Apple Day Convocation will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall.

The keynote speaker for the convocation is Paula Baker, CEO of Freeman Health Systems.
