If the numbers for Pittsburg State University’s Spring Career Day are a barometer, the job market could be looking up for students in search of jobs or internship opportunities this spring.
Mindy Cloninger, director of PSU’s Office of Career Services, said a record 92 companies and organizations have requested space for the event, which runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, in the Overman Student Center. Cloninger said the high level of interest means the event will use just about every available corner of the student center.
“It is going to be extremely cozy,” Cloninger said, “but it is exciting, because it means there are some very attractive opportunities awaiting our students.”
Spring Career Day is open to students in all academic areas. Students have the opportunity to meet business representatives and learn about career and internship opportunities at the companies or agencies they represent.
Cloninger said the companies planning on attending are diverse and come from near and far. Iconic names like Nike, Walgreens, Toyota and Sherwin-Williams will greet students alongside numerous smaller, local companies that may not have the name recognition of their neighbors, but have career options many students find attractive. Each offers unique opportunities for the right student, Cloninger said.
