PSU to host 7th annual Block Kids contest

The seventh annual Block Kids event will take place at noon on Saturday, Jan. 25, in room S102 of the PSU Kansas Technology Center.

Free and open to the first 100 students in grades first through sixth, the event challenges kids to build, in one hour, a construction-industry-related project using building blocks.

Registration opens at noon, and the contest will commence around 12:45 p.m. The winners will be announced shortly before 3 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each class. An overall prize also will be awarded. Dennis Audo, assistant professor in the School of Construction, said each prize will relate to the construction industry.

“This is a fun event for the kids, and it just keeps getting more popular by the year,” Audo said. “We want to expose the kids to the field of construction and have a good time while we’re at it. The prizes will include things like age-appropriate tools and toolboxes.”

The event is sponsored by the National Association of Women in Construction Chapter 382 and the Pitt State School of Construction.
