Krimson Kultuur success pleasant surprise

By the end of the Fall 2013 semester, the Enactus students managing their Krimson Kultuur store in downtown Pittsburg couldn’t believe what had come of their new project.

“We had just opened in November, and everything we had left at the end of the semester could fit on one table,” said Sam Bogle, Enactus president. “It was unbelievable how successful the store was. There is no way we could have imagined that it would go over so well. It was certainly a pleasant surprise.”

Now, after an Enactus shopping trip to the Dallas Market Center, the store at 111 W. 4th St. is restocked and again open for business from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

“It’s an exciting time,” Bogle said. “School is back in session, and the store is restocked and ready to go. We’re very excited to see what kind of success this semester brings.”

Bogle said customers can expect a more diverse collection of items in the store this semester.

“We have more items that cater to men,” she said. “That was something we didn’t have a lot of last year. We also have more toys and other interesting things that are new to the store.”

The bulk of the items are again those of the 10,000 Villages organization. Founded in 1946, 10,000 Villages sells handmade gifts, jewelry and other pieces of art that were produced by artisans in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Product sales help pay for food, education, health care and housing for artisans who would otherwise be unemployed or underemployed.
