Ceramic artist Frank A. Pishkur will hold a public workshop in conjunction with his exhibit, “Working the Surface,” which has been featured in Pittsburg State University’s University Gallery since Nov. 29. Pishkur’s lecture and workshop will run from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, in 106 Porter Hall on the PSU campus.
Pishkur received his BFA from Indiana State University, and his MFA in ceramics from Wichita State University. He is currently an associate professor at Missouri Southern State University. He has been a visiting professor of Ceramics at Kyung Hee University in Suwon, South Korea, for three semesters, and was the visiting artist at Louisiana College in Pineville, La.
Variations in the carved or sometimes brushed textures of Pishkur’s pieces create patterns and rhythms on the ceramic forms. His style is inspired by traditional Korean ceramics, but is infused with the traditions of the American Midwest.
