Art exhibit highlights diversity

The Pittsburg State University Art Department has teamed up with the PSU Office of Student Diversity to sponsor a national juried exhibit that attempts to reflect the varied challenges and triumphs of multicultural diversity.

The exhibit opens on Tuesday, Jan. 21, with an awards ceremony and reception for the artists at 5 p.m. in Porter Hall. The exhibit will be on display until March 3.

The juror for this unique exhibit is Steve Liggett, an artist and arts advocate in the Tulsa community for more than 40 years. In 2001, Liggett received the Harwelden Award for recognition of his art leadership in the Tulsa community. His formal education is from the University of Tulsa and he holds a master of arts degree with a concentration in ceramics. Liggett has served as the artistic director for Living Arts of Tulsa since 1993.

The top award winner for the exhibit will receive a solo exhibit in the University Gallery in November. Other awards include a $100 Friends of the Gallery award, and a $100.00 Roberta Farrell Immigration Attorney cash award. The Office of Student Diversity will select a $500 purchase award.

Artists included in the show are: Leslie Barlow, Wilson Borja, Wangling Chou, Jonathan Daoang, Diane Pardy Farr, Claudia Aziza Gibson-Hunter, Sarah Gross, Roseanna Hamilton, Jade Hoyer, Rusty Johnson, Jini Kim, Howard Korerth, Gregory Krepps, Maria Lupo, Anh-Thuy Nguyen, Sheli Petersen, Christiana Prado, Bob Schultz, Wendy Seller, and Rob Smith.
