University honors authors

The annual Faculty Authors Reception at Pittsburg State University’s Axe Library is designed to put a spotlight on the extensive and diverse scholarly activity of the university’s faculty. On Thursday, the library hosted its 30th such event.

Papers published in scholarly journals covered one wall while books covered tables on the opposite side of the room. Visitors got a musical treat when Reena Berger Natenberg and Patrick Howle performed three songs from their CD, “Carte Postale: Songs of Francis Poulenc.”

“Library Services congratulates Pittsburg State University faculty who have published scholarly works over the past year,” said Randy Roberts, interim dean of Library Services. “We appreciate their devotion to research, scholarship, and creativity.”

In addition to Natenberg’s and Howle’s CD, books and creative works included:

Judy Berry-Bravo’s Tres Britanicos en la Era del Salitre (1830-1930): George Smith, John T. North, James T. Humberstone,” written with Pedro Bravo-Elizondo.

Donald Baack’s “Integrated Advertising, Promotion, and Marketing Communications,” written with Kenneth E. Clow.

Janet Zepernick’s “Women and Rhetoric Between the Wars,” edited with Ann George and M. Elizabeth Weiser.

Stephen Meats’ “Dark Dove Descending and other Parables.

Paul W. Grimes’ “Economics of Social Issues,” written with Ansel M. Sharp and Charles A. Register.

In addition, more than 75 other papers and academic works were recognized.

Roberts said that over the years, the library has honored a long list of faculty authors, editors, composers and recording artists for their work.

“It reflects well on a Pittsburg State University academic community that is engaged in scholarly activities, is creative and committed learning,” Roberts said.
