PSU expects more than 900 for Rumble in the Jungle Saturday

Saturday will be a big day on the Pittsburg State University campus, and not just because the Gorillas are meeting their cross-border rivals in both football and volleyball. Jon Bartlow, assistant director in the Office of Admission, said they are expecting more than 900 high school students and parents for Rumble in the Jungle.

“We have had a record response,” Bartlow said. “The university is eager to welcome these potential Gorillas to campus!”

This is the second and by far the largest of two Rumble in the Jungle events hosted by PSU. The first was in October.

The high school seniors and their families will begin their day with optional tours of the Kansas Technology Center at 8:15 a.m., registration from 9:30-10 a.m. in Grubbs Hall and a welcome from PSU President Steve Scott from 10-10:50 a.m. From 11 a.m. until 1:15 p.m., the visitors will rotate through groups designed to help them experience a day of college life, see the residence halls, tour the campus and eat lunch in the dining hall.

At 1:15 p.m., the students are invited to join thousands of other Gorilla fans for GorillaFest in Gorilla Village, just east of Carnie Smith Stadium, and for the football game at 2 p.m.

“This is a great way for high school seniors to learn more about PSU’s many strong academic programs and get a taste of the energy and great campus atmosphere PSU offers,” Bartlow said.
