Program includes Native American drumming, wilderness survival skills

Pittsburg State University will continue its observance of Native American Heritage Month on Thursday, Nov. 21, with presentations on Native American drumming and wilderness survival skills. The event takes place at 5 p.m. in the U-Club of the Overman Student Center.

John Hernandez, a Mescalero Apache and noted storyteller, singer and drummer will share songs and drumming techniques whose origins predate the arrival of the white man on the continent.

Bo Brown, the founder and director of the First Earth Wilderness School in Rogersville, Mo. will talk about wilderness survival skills. Brown, a wildlife biologist since 1985, is the former associate director of the Ozark Center for Wildlife Research.

Native American Heritage Month activities are sponsored by the PSU Office of Student Diversity.
